Priory Law supports Kangaroos Charity

Jun 6, 2024 | Kangaroos Charity

Celebrating 30th years of Kangaroos Charity.

We are proud to support Kangaroos, a registered charity, operating in Mid Sussex, providing year-round clubs and trips for people with learning disabilities and additional needs.

We love the vision of the charity…

“Our vision is that people with learning disabilities can exercise their right to leisure, play and recreational activity in a safe and supported environment throughout their lifetime.”

2024 is Kangaroos 30th Birthday! They are having a series of events and activities throughout the year to celebrate this fabulous milestone. We are proud to be part of the Birthday KangaTrail with Joey and the gang! We’ve had great fun creating our Priory Law Kanga – our very own 4ft wooden hand decorated Kangaroo! Thirty Kanga’s are being hand painted and will take pride of place in venues around Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill and the surrounding villages. The KangaTrail will be ‘live’ for 6 weeks throughout July and August, as soon as we have all the details, we will share them with you.

We thought you would be interested to learn more about Kangaroos and who they support…

“We support children, teenagers and adults with severe learning disabilities including those with mobility issues, epilepsy, autism, challenging behaviour, and complex medical needs. We also have family and sibling programmes to provide respite and support for those with a disabled family member.

We provide short breaks and activity clubs with a commitment to supporting people with learning disabilities for their whole lives. The safety of all those attending our clubs and activities is paramount and our well-trained staff are all experienced in supporting young people with learning difficulties and those with additional and complex needs.

Above all, we want the people we support to have fun and enjoy themselves at our clubs and activities. Our aim is to provide a supportive environment where our members can develop social and life skills to help build confidence, self-esteem and independence. The short breaks provide valuable respite for parents and carers while giving them peace of mind that their young person is in a safe and supportive environment.

We offer a wide range of clubs, activities and residential trips to satisfy a wide range of interests and ensure our members get a variety of experiences. We run after-school clubs for ages 6 through to 12, weekly social clubs for teenagers and adults, Saturday and holiday trips to local attractions such as Chessington World of Adventures, days out in London or trips down to the coast.

We also offer residential stays throughout the year for ages 6 up. These are fantastic breaks that aim to provide our members with independence, confidence and above all, a fun trip away!  We host regular stay and play sessions for 0-5 year olds, and have recently extended our offer to include parent and sibling support groups. Our family days are another staple of the Kangaroos Calendar! Open to the whole family, these fun days aim to give the family time to bond together, meet others in a similar situation to them, and gives them the opportunity to explore different activities with their children in a fun and safe environment.”
