Get into Conveyancing
At Priory Law, we are Champions for the Property Law Industry, focused on growing talent and a new way of working.
There has been a long-held belief that Property Law is only assessable with a Law degree – but keep reading to discover opportunities available in conveyancing and career pathways.
When first thinking about a career in property law – there’s probably three things we would highlight as a starting point.
- A love of property
- A keen interest in law
- Being excited by innovations in AI and tech
You need to love property – and people! Property Law involves dealing with people when they are buying or selling property or land, you are constantly communicating on the phone, via email and sometimes meeting clients.

The Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC) define conveyancing as follows.
Conveyancing is the legal process of transferring ownership of property or land from one person to another. It involves the preparation and execution of legal documents related to the sale or purchase, including transfers, contracts, and other ancillary services.
Licensed Conveyancers, regulated by the CLC, are specialist property lawyers who handle all the legal aspects of property transactions, including conveyancing.
As you can see, you need to have a keen interest in law – and be someone who dots the i’s and crosses the t’s – a ‘completer finisher’, someone who takes pride in their work and loves that feeling of a job well done.
At Priory Law we are always focused on outstanding customer service –guided by our core values: – transparent, passionate, caring, and innovative.
Innovation can be seen as a slightly unusual ‘value’ within the conveyancing sector; however, we are constantly striving to look for ways to utilise the benefits of AI and support our client communication with outstanding tech. Why is this the case? We are looking to continually improve the speed and quality of our work – always focused on our clients receiving a fabulous experience.
Does this sound of interest to you?
So, how do you ‘get into’ conveyancing?
You will need to have A levels or BTECs, it’s not a requirement to have taken Law, however it would give you an overview of how the legal system works. There are several entry routes, including on-the-job training straight after A-levels or BTECs, or post-degree options.
The CLC share the following about becoming a Licenced Conveyancer. Priory Law utilise the programme created by the CLC…
“The CLC qualification provides access to an exciting and rewarding career in property conveyancing as a licensed conveyancer. An increasing number of employers recognise the benefits that the CLC qualification can offer their staff. Our distance learning programme combine learning with practical training in a fast-paced and challenging environment.”
Job roles within a Conveyancing firm, such as Priory Law include.
1. Conveyancing Assistant
2. Conveyancing Technician
3a. Licenced Conveyancer | 3b. Solicitor
Routes 1, 2 and 3a can all be accessed without a degree qualification through CLC training and exams on-the-job. Route 3b is accessed via a degree. Interestingly route 3a and 3b deliver the same potential income, which is worth bearing in mind depending on whether you are looking for a degree experience or if you’d prefer to earn while you learn. At Priory Law we have a combination of Licenced Conveyancers and Solicitors working side-by-side.
